Automatic Irrigation

Automatic irrigation is the use of a device to operate irrigation structures; therefore, it is possible to change the flow of water from one bay or into one of the bays in the absence of irrigation.

Automation can be used in various ways:

  • Starting and stopping the irrigation system via supply channel outlets,
  • Starting and stopping pumps,
  • These automations can be used to cut off water flow from an irrigation area, i.e., a bay or a section of a canal, and direct the water to another area.

These changes occur automatically without any manual effort. However, the producer must be at the system while preparing the system at the start of the irrigation process and performing maintenance for the components to function properly.

✓ More precise cutoff: Automation of the irrigation system ensures that water is cut off at the appropriate point in the bay. This is usually more accurate than manual control because water losses occur when producers are too late or too early to make a change in water flow.

✓ Reduced runoff of water and nutrients: Automation can help with both effective fertilization and spraying by reducing water losses. Retaining fertilizers and pesticides in the land to be irrigated provides both economic and environmental benefits.
