Smart Irrigation Revolution at Özlem Agricultural Enterprise: Real Results of Digital Agriculture

In modern agriculture, digitalization is no longer a luxury but has become a necessity. Özlem Agricultural Enterprise, by digitalizing its irrigation infrastructure with esular smart irrigation technologies, has both reduced costs and increased efficiency. Project Scope: Different Solutions in 5 Plots

Work was carried out on a total of 5 different plots at Özlem Agricultural Enterprise. While a full smart irrigation system was installed in three plots, comparative analysis was made possible by monitoring only energy and pressure in two plots.

1. Pump Status Analysis with Energy Tracking

The biggest operating cost in irrigation systems is energy. With the energy monitoring system we established at Özlem Tarım, the real-time operating status, energy consumption, and performance of the pumps are continuously monitored.

Important Note: Thanks to energy monitoring, abnormal consumption patterns in pumps are detected and interventions can be made before major failures occur.

The esular E Series Control Units used in the system report the operating status of the pumps instantly and send automatic notifications when there is any problem.

2. Pump Energy Consumption and Cost Optimization

The energy consumption of the pumps used at Özlem Tarım was measured precisely, and hourly, daily, and monthly consumption profiles were created. In this way:

  • The most efficient operating hours of the pumps were determined
  • Irrigation timing was optimized according to the electricity tariff
  • Energy costs became predictable
  • Budget planning began to be done more accurately

3. Station Flow and Pressure Measurement: Leak Detection

Flow and pressure measurements, which are of critical importance for monitoring the health of the irrigation system, are continuously tracked at Özlem Tarım. Thanks to esular pressure sensors:

  • Sudden pressure drops in the system are detected instantly
  • Leak and burst points are quickly identified
  • Water loss is reduced to the minimum level
  • Maintenance teams are directed to the correct point

Note from the Field: Thanks to the high-precision pressure sensors used in the project, even a small leak that cannot be detected by eye is noticed at an early stage, and possible failures and losses are minimized.

4. Pump Efficiency Analysis: Energy Calculation for Every Liter of Water

By bringing together energy, flow, and pressure data, the general efficiency status of the pump stations was analyzed. Thanks to this comprehensive analysis:

  • Energy consumption per unit of water of the pumps was calculated
  • The most efficient operating points were determined
  • Performance indicators (KPI) were established
  • Maintenance timing was optimized

Efficiency analyses ensured that the pumps were always operated at the ideal operating point and extended the pump life.

5. Wireless Valve Control: No More Going to the Field

One of the most appreciated features of the project was wireless valve control. Thanks to esular Wireless Smart Valve Control Units:

  • Valves in drip irrigation lines are controlled from a central platform
  • Valve opening/closing operations can be done from mobile devices
  • The need to go to the field for manual valve control has been eliminated
  • Irrigation timing can be done precisely

The system works smoothly even in remote plots without electricity infrastructure, thanks to battery technology working with solar panels.

6. Soil Moisture Sensors: Give Water But Only As Much As Needed

In three plots of Özlem Tarım, esular Soil Moisture Sensors were placed at strategic points. These sensors:

  • Measure moisture at different depths
  • Comprehensively analyze the water status in the root zone
  • Calculate the actual water needs of the plants
  • Prevent both under and over-irrigation
