Remote Irrigation Management in a 1290 Decare Area: A Real Success Story

The use of technology in agriculture is no longer a luxury, but a necessity. Especially in large areas, irrigation management creates great difficulties in terms of both time and cost. The Süral Project we carried out in Alanya, Antalya, is a concrete example showing how these difficulties can be overcome with modern solutions.

About the Project: 1290 Decares, 8 Different Sections

In the Süral project, a total of 1290 decares of land is divided into 8 different sections. Different crops are grown in various parts of the land:

  • 420 decares: Pomegranate production
  • 395 decares: Avocado and citrus
  • 265 decares: Avocado, lemon, and orange
  • 60 decares: Avocado
  • 55 decares: Lemon
  • 100 decares: Olive, citrus, and avocado

In such a large area, meeting the different water needs of different plant species is truly a challenging task. This is exactly where esular smart irrigation systems come into play.

Problems Experienced Before esular

Before the project started, the business was struggling with the classic problems experienced by many agricultural enterprises:

1. Difficulty of Manual Control

It was almost impossible to manually manage 46 valve control units and 8 pump stations in a 1290 decare area. Going to each point and opening or closing valves took hours.

2. Night Irrigation Problem

Night irrigation was both difficult and almost impossible. For daytime irrigation, it was necessary to start early. This situation brought along continuous labor assignment and overtime costs.

3. Water Loss and Leaks

Water leaks that could not be noticed visually caused a significant amount of water waste. It was difficult to track how much water was being spent.

4. High Energy Costs

Irregular irrigation led to unnecessary pump operation and energy waste. Monthly electricity bills posed a heavy burden for the business.

5. Water Quality Control

Measuring and balancing the EC and pH values of the water manually was both difficult and tiring. It required constant control.

6. Pressure Problems

Since pressure changes on the line were not noticed, valves and pumps were damaged, resulting in continuous maintenance and repair costs.

As esular, we established a special smart irrigation infrastructure for the Süral project. Here are the solutions we implemented step by step:

Remote Control and Monitoring

We installed esular smart irrigation systems in a total of 46 valve control units and 8 pump stations. Now, the entire system can be controlled 24/7 from a mobile phone or computer. Whether day or night, you can manage your irrigation wherever you are.

Prevention of Loss with Water Meters

We installed water meters with pulse outputs at each well and pump outlet. Thus, every drop of water was tracked. Leaks are detected immediately and can be intervened.

Energy Consumption Tracking

We installed energy analyzers at all pump stations. Monthly electricity consumption can now be seen from the mobile application. Energy costs decreased thanks to regular irrigation programs.

Automatic EC and pH Control

We placed EC and pH sensors at the well and pump outlets. The system automatically adjusts the fertilizer and acid dosage according to the measurements. Water quality is always kept at the optimal level.

Pressure Monitoring and Protection

We installed pressure sensors on the line. When any abnormal situation is detected, the user is informed immediately and the system shuts itself down automatically. Equipment damage is prevented.
